Description:
On 10th July 2025, our middle school students had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Environmental Festival hosted by St. Paul’s School, Darjeeling. The event brought together four prominent schools of the hills: Loreto Convent, North Point, Mount Hermon and St. Paul’s with around 80 students participating from each institution.
The programme began with an inspiring session by the guest speaker, Mr. Michael Dutta, who spoke meaningfully about our relationship with the environment. He also gave a fascinating presentation on the history of Darjeeling, highlighting its unique geographical features, the changes it has undergone over the years and the environmental challenges it now faces.
Following this, the host school formally declared the festival open, and the students eagerly dispersed to take part in various activities held across the campus. The festival was designed as a platform for exposure and collaboration, rather than competition, allowing students to learn and engage freely.
In the quiz contest, students were thoughtfully grouped to encourage inter-school interaction, with each team comprising members from different schools. Meanwhile, the creative writing participants found their space in the Junior School Library, where they penned down their thoughts and the poster-making group got busy expressing their environmental ideas through art in the Art Room.
Some students explored the campus, capturing photographs and videos that they later converted into engaging short reels. One of the highlights of the day was the display of stalls by each school, showcasing local plants and herbs with medicinal value. These exhibits were not only visually appealing but also rich in knowledge.
After lunch, the students continued with their respective activities. A special moment followed when representatives from each school participated in a plantation drive near the basketball court, adding a lasting and green memory to the day.
Towards the end of the event, each school presented a short cultural performance celebrating the spirit of togetherness and creativity. The day concluded with a warm gesture from the Rector of St. Paul’s who presented all participating schools with a beautiful memento and certificates to the students.
It was truly a meaningful and enriching day, full of learning, sharing and joy. A wonderful way for our students to connect with nature and with one another.
