Description: Loreto Convent, Darjeeling, is delighted to announce the installation of a breath taking and unique 3D wall sculpture, a stunning addition to our campus aesthetics and a powerful testament to creativity and environmental consciousness. This remarkable project, envisioned by our esteemed Reverend Principal Sister Punitha, has been brought to life through the exceptional talent and dedication of alumna Mrs. Reena Chhetri, supported by a wonderful team. Our principal, whose foresight previously gifted the school its beautiful vertical garden, envisioned an accompanying artistic statement to enhance the space. This vision culminated in the creation of a magnificent 3D wall sculpture, transforming an idea into a tangible masterpiece. We are profoundly grateful to Mrs. Reena Chhetri (past pupil of Loreto Convent, Darjeeling) for generously offering her extraordinary artistic skills as a gift to her alma mater. From May 5th to June 2nd, 2025, Mrs. Chhetri led the intricate process of designing and constructing this large-scale work. The sculpture's most remarkable feature lies in its very composition. It is a true masterpiece of upcycled art, meticulously crafted entirely from waste products generated within our school. This innovative approach not only resulted in a visually captivating piece spread across three pillars but also serves as a powerful symbol of sustainability and creative reuse, echoing important environmental values. Mrs. Chhetri’s expertise was ably supported by a dedicated team: • Ms. Shravasti Lama (past pupil of Loreto Convent, Darjeeling): Bringing her skills in design and passion for art, Ms. Lama (English Hons., Delhi University; Diploma in Motion Graphic Design) provided invaluable assistance. • Saanvi Subedi (School Head Girl): Demonstrating leadership beyond her role, Saanvi contributed significantly to the project. • Shiwangi Rai (Captain, Delphine Hart House): Representing her house with distinction, Shiwangi added her efforts to the creation. • Dewanshi Chhetri (Class XI): Dewanshi’s involvement represents the vibrant talent within our current student body. A special note of profound gratitude is extended to Ms. G. Lama and the JPIC teachers whose unwavering support, encouragement, and facilitation throughout the project were instrumental in turning this artistic dream into the tangible reality that now graces our campus. The artist, Mrs. Reena Chhetri, embodies the multifaceted excellence Loreto strives to nurture. She holds the prestigious Bachelor (BVA) and Master (MVA) degrees in Visual Arts from MS University, Baroda, and is a UGC-NET qualified professional. Mrs. Chhetri stands as an inspiring example of talent, humility, and dedication across the fields of art, design, education, and culinary arts. This extraordinary 3D wall sculpture is far more than a decorative element. It is a symbol of alumni devotion, creative collaboration, environmental responsibility, and the enduring power of artistic vision. It stands proudly beside our vertical garden, a gift from a distinguished alumna, created with the help of fellow alumnae and current students, embodying the spirit of Loreto Convent. We invite the entire school community to pause, admire this unique masterpiece, and reflect on the powerful messages of sustainability and creativity it represents.
